Not Without A Passport

Passport to Freedom?

Not without a Passport.

No freedom to travel.
No freedom to trade.
No freedom to explore.

Not without a Passport.

No freedom to learn.
No freedom to grow.
No freedom to see.

Not without a Passport.

Passport to Prison.

No freedom to protection,
Under the law.

No freedom of expression,
Under the law.

No freedom to survive,
Under the law.

Passport to Servitude.

No freedom to own
anything worth owning.

My own labor,
my own power,
my own intellect,
my own education,

my own skills are used against me.

Not even the freedom to live
minimally.
Not without harsh judgements’
of a Capitalist system.
Not without a passport.
No country for old men.
No country for Mother.
No country for children
born without
a chance to
go where they may.

What is freedom now?
Will our children know it one day?
No.

What is freedom now?
It is duct tape across our mouths,
so we don’t speak,
wasted words anyway.

Not without a passport,
because you were never a
free citizen,
because you were never part
of free enterprise,
because you were never more
than a shift+4.
